NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma has suspended freshman running back Joe Mixon for the season after he pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of assault. Mixon, one of the nation’s top recruits and a potential starter, is accused of knocking a woman unconscious with a punch and breaking several bones in her face last month. A release from the school Monday said university President David Boren accepted the recommendation of athletic director Joe Castiglione and coach Bob Stoops to suspend Mixon. He will be excluded from all team activities and removed from the team roster.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) Police in Topeka are looking for two men after a woman reported being pistol-whipped and carjacked outside a motel. WIBW-TV reports officers were called around 7 a.m. Monday to the Traveler’s Inn in the southern part of the city. The victim told police that two men attacked her, then stole her maroon, 2004 Chrysler Pacifica with Kansas plates 406 GGZ. The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.

The mother of a man shot near a gas station on Manhattan’s North side in May was back before Riley County Law Board members Monday. Sophia Starks, the mother of Dareen Starks, who was allegedly shot by Daeshawn Bryant, 18,complained about not being able to meet with Riley County Police authorities with her attorney present. As approved previously by the Riley County Commission, the Riley County Planning and Development Department has formed and convened the first meeting of the County Agritourism Task Force. The group is comprised of several different entities and local individuals, including County Commissioner, Dave Lewis.
