Manhattan Area Technical College got a visit from Governor Sam Brownback Wednesday afternoon, as he presented a check to Manhattan/Ogden USD 383 Superintendent, Bob Shannon, and USD 383 School Board President, Curt Herrman, for the district’s accomplishment in the Senate Bill 155 initiative. MANHATTAN — Kansas State University’s newest residence hall on the Manhattan campus will be named Wefald Hall in honor of Jon Wefald, who served as the university’s 12th president from July 1986 to June 2009. Governor, Sam Brownback; Kansas State University Head Football Coach, Bill Snyder and Kansas State University Men’s Basketball Coach, Bruce Weber, were all in attendance for the Kansas Regenerative Medicine Center ribbon cutting ceremony held Wednesday morning. The center will house two physicians, Dr. Frank Lyons and Dr. Andrew Pope, as well as two registered nurses and a surgical technician. A 25 by 18 foot high-definition LED videoboard is the centerpiece of $2.4 million in upgrades for the 2014-15 season to Bramlage Coliseum announced by K-State on Wednesday morning.  The new Panasonic display will be four times larger than the current video board, which was upgraded in 2001.   The project also includes six additional LED displays that will be installed above the seating on the north and south ends of the arena with three located above Sections 12-15 on the north end and three above Section 24 to Section 1 on the south end. DETROIT (AP)   Alex Gordon and Mike Moustakas homered as part of a seven-run second inning, and the Kansas City Royals took over first place in the AL Central on Tuesday night with their ninth straight victory, 11-4 over the Detroit Tigers. Gordon and Moustakas hit two-run shots off Max Scherzer, and Kansas City has won the first two games of this four-game series emphatically.
