Charles Jones rushed for 77 yards on 20 carries while Jake Waters added a rushing touchdown as the Purple defeated the White 23-13 in the annual Kansas State Spring Football Game before 17,395 Saturday afternoon at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. The Purple got on the board first in a low scoring first half on a 14-yard run by Glenn Gronkowski which made the score 7-0. The Litttle Apple Optimists Club joined the Manhattan Breakfast Optimists Club Saturday for a District meeting at the Manhattan Fire Department Headquarters.   “We had a business meeting with some training with regards to fundraising and membership recruitment,” said Craig Cox, president of the Manhattan Breakfast Optimists Club.   Little Apple Club President, Penny Alonso says both clubs share a common goal.   “We’re community service oriented. With the West Stadium Center now complete and fully operational, Kansas State University is set to take the next step in the master plan for Bill Snyder Family Stadium. Just before kickoff of Saturday afternoon’s Purple and White Spring Football game, Athletics Director John Currie unveiled the plans for the $65 million renovation of the Vanier Football Complex which will be known as the North Stadium Project. The Fort Riley Commissary cautions patrons who purchased 80-percent lean ground beef Friday, after 1 p.m., at the commissary.As a precautionary measure, patrons who purchased 80-percent lean ground beef marked with a pack date of April 25, 2014 and an expiration date of April 26, 2014, are asked to discard it or return it to the Fort Riley Commissary for a refund, according to Peter Howell, Fort Riley Commissary Director. The Walk to Cure Arthritis raises funds every year, as well as awareness, to fight the nation’s leading cause of disability. The event takes place in several different locations throughout the nation every year, and Manhattan held a walk on Saturday.The event features a three-mile and one-mile course, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family.
