A suspect is in custody in Junction City after a two hour negotiation with law enforcement following a reported domestic disturbance Monday night. Junction City Police report shortly before nine p.m they were dispatched to the 300 block of 5th Street,  and upon arrival contact was made with a woman who advised her common law husband had threatened her as she exited the residence. It was reported the man in the apartment, identified as 49 year old Scott Robins, had a shotgun and had threatened to harm himself and others. Contact was made with the subject by telephone and he refused to exit the apartment to speak with the investigating officers. Riley County commissioners voted 2-1 Monday morning to halt any plans to sell four county buildings. A semiannual report on alcohol enforcement from Riley County Police brought several questions and comments during Monday’s Riley County Law Board meeting. Board member Craig Beardsley wondered about the numbers involved and how the information was gathered–adding that while some of the local bars might be self-reporting, he wished there were a way to make that clear on reports. Police arrested Shannon Meireis, 34, of Topeka, Kansas on August 12, 2016 at approximately 9:05 PM while in the 400 block of S. 4th Street in Manhattan. Meireis was arrested on the offense of possession of opiates, opium, or narcotic drugs and use of possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia. She was given a bond of $6,000.00 and at the time of this report was not confined at the Riley County Jail. This arrest stemmed from a traffic infraction which constituted a traffic stop. Manhattan PEO Chapter IW presented a $1,600 continuing education grant Saturday to K-State Global Campus student AnLee Bradley, who is working toward a Masters of Art in Teaching degree. Bradley, of Topeka, was presented with the check by IW’s Continuing Education Chair Cathy Scroggs, with committee members, Judy Regehr and Cheryl Arthur and Chapter IW President Patty Wadick and IW member Sydney Carlin present. The PEO Program for Continuing Education is a grant program providing financial assistance to women whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to support themselves and/or their families.

Updated 11:48 p.m.: TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) has rescinded a boil water advisory for the City of Manhattan public water supply located in Riley County. The advisory was issued because of a loss of pressure. Inadequate pressure may result in a loss of chlorine residuals and bacterial contamination. Public water suppliers in Kansas take all measures necessary to notify customers quickly after a system failure or shutdown. WICHITA, Kan. (AP) Wichita police are investigating the discovery of a body found near the Arkansas River but don’t believe foul play was involved. The Wichita Eagle reports the body was lying on the ground next to a tree around 7:30 a.m. Sunday when someone walking along the river found him. Police spokesman Sgt. Joe Kennedy says a 59-year-old white man was pronounced dead at the scene. The body was taken to the Sedgwick County Regional Forensics Science Center to determine cause of death. Kennedy says the person may have been homeless. No other details were being released.

An Onaga man who allegedly threatened a person with a gun was arrested Thursday. The Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a report of an unwanted subject at the address of 717 Leonard Street in Onaga Thursday afternoon. The caller reported that another person inside the residence at 717 Leonard had been threatened with a gun. The suspect, Scott Hanner, 53, was located outside of the residence. After investigation of the incident, deputies took Hanner into custody. LAWRENCE — A Kansas court says parental rights should be terminated for a woman accused in 2012 of binding and blindfolding two of her children. The Kansas Court of Appeals agreed Friday that Deborah Gomez’s parental rights should be terminated. Gomez, and her husband, Adolfo Gomez, were arrested after police found two of their children blindfolded and bound with duct tape in a Lawrence parking lot. The couple said they were traveling from Illinois because they believed the world was ending. The children were taken into state custody.
