Houston-area authorities say a father opened fire on Wednesday, killing four of his children as well as two adults who were with them, and critically wounding his 15-year-old daughter. The father later surrendered to authorities.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Lawrence police say they don’t suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found along Kansas 10 in Douglas County. A commuter noticed the body about 6 a.m. Wednesday near an industrial area called Venture Park. The man was later identified as 37-year-old Nathan Thurman. Police said Thurman had recently been staying at the nearby Lawrence Community Shelter, which serves the homeless and people at risk of losing their homes. The Junction City Police Department is looking for a wanted fugitive, and has requested the public’s assistance. Marco Foreman (17) walked away from a juvenile placement facility in Junction City on May 23rd, and has still not been taken into custody. Foreman has warrants for aggravated escape from custody and probation violation. Earlier this month, Junction City Police Detectives observed Foreman walking in Junction City, but in both instances he was able to flee on foot. A spokesman with Westar Energy indicates the outage, affecting about 900 customers, was due to a breaker that was open at a substation. Crews were on their way to fix the problem.
