ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Salvador Perez gave the Royals a late lift Wednesday night heading into a key midseason series. Perez hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the ninth inning and Kansas City beat Tampa Bay 5-4 to take two of three from the Rays. The second-place Royals return home Thursday night to begin a four-game series against AL Central-leading Detroit, which has a 4 1/2-game lead. LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) Lawrence police say they don’t suspect foul play in the death of a man whose body was found along Kansas 10 in Douglas County. A commuter noticed the body about 6 a.m. Wednesday near an industrial area called Venture Park. The man was later identified as 37-year-old Nathan Thurman. Police said Thurman had recently been staying at the nearby Lawrence Community Shelter, which serves the homeless and people at risk of losing their homes. A Manhattan Area Technical College student was presented with a grant check by members of PEO, Chapter IW, of Manhattan, on Wednesday at the Manhattan Country Club. Tiffany Lund of Clay Center is close to completion of the Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Support Services with an accounting emphasis. Lund received the check from IW’s Continuing Education Chair, Cathy Scroggs. The Junction City Police Department is looking for a wanted fugitive, and has requested the public’s assistance. Marco Foreman (17) walked away from a juvenile placement facility in Junction City on May 23rd, and has still not been taken into custody.  Foreman has warrants for aggravated escape from custody and probation violation. Earlier this month, Junction City Police Detectives observed Foreman walking in Junction City, but in both instances he was able to flee on foot.  The first time he was seen, he was in the 700 block of West 10th street, and the second time-he was seen near 1st…

Update at 4:15 p.m.: Power has been restored for the downtown area. Original story: A power outage was reported in downtown Manhattan shortly before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. A spokesman with Westar Energy indicates the outage, affecting about 900 customers, was due to a breaker that was open at a substation. Crews were on their way to fix the problem.
